International Travel Scholar Award Application

DESCRIPTION

Two scholarships of $10,000 each will be awarded for travel and training in liver transplantation. One scholarship will be for basic science and one for clinical research. The awards helps fund the recipient for training in liver transplantation (either transplant hepatology or transplant surgery, anesthesia/critical care or basic science) under the tutelage of an ILTS member. The goal is to encourage a career in clinical or translational science related to liver transplantation.

OBJECTIVE

To foster international collaboration in the development of young investigators for the advancement of the field of liver transplantation.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Qualified applicants must possess an MD or equivalent degree for the Clinical Scholarship and an MD, PhD or equivalent for the Basic Science Scholarship. The candidate should be in training (fellowship) or in a junior faculty position, [i.e. hepatology (adult or pediatrics) or transplant surgeon or anesthesia/critical care]
  • The applicant may not hold a senior faculty position.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Letter from home institution endorsing applicant (Home supervisor must be an ILTS member)
  • Letter from host mentor agreeing to supervise the candidate's training. (Host supervisor must be an ILTS member)
  • Include: a career development proposal (within space guidelines); Must demonstrate administrative and leadership qualities.
  • A minimum training of 6 months is required at host institution .
  • Applicant must use award for initializing travel that otherwise would not be feasible.
  • The funding cannot be used for indirect costs or institutional overhead.
  • The funding will start at the beginning of June, 2012.
  • Funds not spent during the grant term must be returned to the ILTS.
  • Recipients may not transfer this grant, in part, between institutions without prior written approval of the ILTS.
  • A final report of the results of the training experience must be submitted to the ILTS upon completion which includes a letter from the department head at the host institution.

REVIEW PROCESS

The ILTS Scholarship committee will review all applications and make a recommendation to the ILTS Council. Applicants will be notified by November 1 regarding the status of their application.

DEADLINE and SUBMISSION

Once a login is created, all information and documents submitted to the online application will be saved and accessible for completion at a later date.

The application must include following:

1. Completed Application
2. One letter of recommendation from home supervisor (must be an ILTS member)
3. Letter of commitment from host (preceptor must be an ILTS member)
4. Career Development Proposal
5. CV of applicant

The deadline for receipt of the application is October 30 with a decision to be made by January 15. To be considered, a completed online application must be submitted no later then the deadline date.
