After a very successful start with more than 300 attendees, we are excited to invite you to the next webinar in the Regional Expansion of Advanced Learning (REAL) initiative for Southeast Asian and South Asian regions.
Yaman Tokat, Vijay Vohra, and Paritosh Prasad will share their experiences in setting up a liver transplant program, anesthesia/critical care requirements, and infection control perspectives.
The ILTS Education and Scholarship Committee is looking forward to welcoming you!
Webinar Objectives:
- Aimed at reaching out to the regions of Southeast Asia and South Asia, where transplant professionals are seeking to start/advance liver transplantation and set up LT programs.
- Enhance partnership with the local LT community to build knowledge and skills in this area.
- Create communication channels for members from the region to connect with one another through the ILTS REAL program.

Organizers:
Prashant Bhangui MBBS, MS, Masters in HPB Surgery (Henri Bismuth Institute, France), is the Associate Director, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon at the Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, Medanta-The Medicity, Delhi NCR, India. He was a Chair of the Vanguard Committee and currently a member of the Education and Scholarship Committee and Development Committee of the ILTS. Dr. Bhangui’s areas of research include hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal liver metastases, and living donor liver transplantation. He has several publications in key peer-reviewed International journals on these subjects and serves on the Reviewer panel of high index factor HPB Surgery and Transplant Journals. | |
Alfred Kow, Associate Professor, is a Senior Consultant at HPB and Liver Transplantation Division at the National University Hospital Singapore. His main area of interest is liver transplantation and minimally invasive HPB surgery. He has done many complex MIS HPB Surgeries, including major Lap Hepatectomies, Lap Whipples, Lap ALPPS and Lap liver donor harvesting for liver transplantation.
He is also the Assistant Dean of Education at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He has received many teaching awards for teaching excellence. His main research areas of interest include the development of surgical techniques in HPB surgery and the outcome of surgical treatment for HPB malignancies and liver transplantation. |
Speakers:
Yaman Tokat is the Chief Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon at the International Liver Center (ILC), Istanbul, Turkey, and President of the Turkish Liver Transplant Association. He got his medical degree, residency in surgery and his titles at the Ege University Medical School, Izmir. He had his liver transplantation training in Cambridge, England. In 1999, he started the first successful living donor liver transplant program in Turkey. In 2005, he moved to Florence Nightingale Hospital and Bilim University. He has performed more than 2000 liver transplants, including more than 1500 LDLTs. He has more than 300 lectures and more than 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is also an Executive Council Member of the ILTS. | |
Vijay Vohra is the Chairman of Liver Transplant and GI Anaesthesia, at Medanta – The Medicity, Delhi NCR, India, leading a team with experience of nearly 3500 liver transplants. He has been a pioneer in the field of Liver Transplant Anaesthesia in India and has been involved in the training of the next generation of Indian LT anaesthesiologists, as well as Fellows from overseas for the last two decades. With several book chapters and publications in indexed Journals and vast experience in the field, he is also currently editing a book titled “Perioperative Anaesthetic Management in Liver Transplantation” for Springer publications. Dr Vohra is currently the President of the Liver Transplant Anaesthesia and Critical Care Society of India (LITRACSI). | |
Paritosh Prasad is the URMC Director of the Transplant and Immunocompromised Infectious Disease Service as well as the Director of Surgical Critical Care at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He is boarded in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Infectious Disease and Critical Care and sub-specialty trained in Transplant Infectious Disease. He graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School in 2005 and completed his residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA as well as fellowships at the National Institutes of Health as well as Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. |
Moderators:
Vanessa de Villa, MD, PhD, FPCS, is a hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgeon who has trained and worked in Spain, Taiwan and Hong Kong before returning to her country in 2008 to start a local liver transplant program. She is currently Director of the Center for Liver Health and Transplantation and Head of the Liver Transplant Program at The Medical City in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. She is a founding member of the Philippine Society for Transplant Surgeons and the Philippine Association of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgeons. Dr. de Villa has been a member of the ILTS for several years and currently serves in the Education and Scholarship Committee. | |
Manhal Izzy is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a Transplant Hepatologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre based in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. He serves as the vice-chair for the education and scholarship committee of the ILTS. His research focuses on Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy and its complications pre- and post- transplant. He is one of the founding members of the Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy Consortium that published the revised diagnostic criteria for Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy in 2020. |
